Interview -- Kivat

1 -- What makes the Kivat company sustainable?

  • We own our factory and have full oversight of production, making it easier to have control over our supply chain.

  • All of our raw materials are the highest quality and are certified according to the highest standards on the market, such as mulesing-free merino wool and GOTS certified organic cotton from European yarn factories.

  • All Kivat products are made in our own factory in Finland, which means that our co-workers work under the Finnish law. Our employees are paid a living wage, and working hours are from 7am-3pm.

2 -- When was Kivat founded and why?

Agtuvi Oy, the company behind the KIVAT brand was founded by Jukka Puskala in 1975 in Tampere, Finland.

At the time, there were no children’s accessories made of natural materials, only polyester and acrylic. Jukka’s first born son, Janne, was very allergic to non-natural materials, and that is how Jukka thought that there might be a market for this kind of product.

KIVAT has been using natural raw materials ever since!

3 -- How does your Finnish culture inspire your designs?

In Finland, people and the culture are known to keep their word and to be trustworthy. That is exactly who we want to be and what we want to communicate to customers.

You can trust that KIVAT products will last a long time and that the quality always remains as high as we have promised.

We are determined to fulfill kids needs when they are playing outside.

4 -- What are you loving most about the Av Norden assortment & partnership?

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the aI don’t think we would have had the chance to enter the US market without our partnership. US is a huge market and it takes a lot of work to pop out from the crowd.

The fact that KIVAT was mentioned in Forbes and NY Post have definitely been big highlights in KIVAT’s history! That wouldn’t have happened without Jenny’s input. She really puts her soul into her work; introducing US customers to more sustainable and ethical alternatives in the clothing industry..
